Welcoming Nathan | Sunshine Coast Newborn Photography

This is a very special and a little bit personal post that I wanted to share and really is just me sharing the beauty in birth photography.  And by no means are these photos perfect in anyway (but they are perfect to me), they tell a little bit of the story of the birth of my 3rd child, and I’m just happy to have these.

On the 8th of July last year we welcomed a gorgeous little boy into this world,  Nathan.  As a lot of you know I also have 2 older children and this is our third. We didn’t find out the sex of the baby in hope of a girl, however this time I was blessed with another boy and wouldn’t change it for the world.

I have always felt the need or want to have a natural birth and even though going into labour with my other two I ended up having 2 emergency C-sections. Could it be third time lucky that I would get my wish of a natural birth. My husband and I tried to prepare more then we had with the other two, by trying some positive birthing techniques and making sure we had a plan in place for us to try and follow (this really helped). Dr Moir was my chosen Doctor (even though he was not there for the birth), though he always made me feel comfortable and at ease through out the whole pregnancy (he was also my Dr for the birth of my second child). We did have the expectation that this baby would be on the larger side as my first two boys were, however when we had scans he only came up as a little bit bigger.  So the possibility of a natural birth was still a possibility (the other option was a caesarean if he was measuring big).  I fine with that option, though things were looking positive for a natural birth.

Late in the last trimester I started seeing an acupuncturist (whom I was also allowed to have at the birth at the hospital). Nadja Ostro (https://www.naturaltherapypages.com.au/connect/nadjaostro/about_us/24074) was absolutely amazing in the lead up and at the birth. The care she takes with her patients is just so calming and she also makes you feel at ease and stronger as a women. According to my midwife, my cervix was amazingly soft and ripe.

On the 8th of July (exactly 40 weeks),  Around Mid-afternon, I was casually hanging out with my boys at my friends place, thinking I may of been in labour though wasn’t sure, so thought I better head home via Mums. The contractions that were taking place were very scattered 3-4 mins and then 7-8 mins apart.   I still wasn’t sure if this was the real deal, so headed to the beach with my mum, then the contractions became a little more consistent, so off home to grab the bag and for the hubstar to take me to the hospital (arrived about 5pm).
Everything was happening – yep I was most definitely  in labour the contractions were coming along quickly.  There were a few negative vibes after arriving at the hospital (with a difference of opinion with the Dr on call), however these all disappeared when I had three amazing people help me (my husband, Nadja, and my midwife at SCPH (seriously couldn’t of got through it without her)– I feel so bad I have forgotten her name).  Five hours later I gave natural birth (to my Doctors surprise) to a healthy baby boy – 8 pound 4 oz.

Never give up on any of your life’s needs and wants whatever they may be….time, patience and love will help you get there (they sure helped me). Giving birth is such a beautiful and magical experience. I will treasure these photos I have forever (One day I would love to capture the beauty of life coming into the world, birth photography is just amazing and so special).

*These photos were taken between my husband and Nadja whom was oh so kind to pick up my camera and capture some amazing memories for me.
